March 1, 2002 - WAR REPORT NUMBER 9-2002
The new battle cry for the GOP should be "tax the poor" because
the democrats don't care. This cry should be the GOP's counter to the
democrat's cry of "tax breaks for the rich." Why? Read on.
Evidence abounds showing that democratic politicians tax or short-change
minorities. For example, in Alexandria, Virginia, utilities tax on telephone
bills is 25 percent. I don't know, but I guess this is the highest telephone
tax imposed on telephone bills by any local jurisdiction in the nation.
The city government of Alexandria is governed by a six-member council
and all but one are democrats. I also don't recall the City Council ever
being controlled by the GOP.
According to a January 24, 2002, article by Craig Timberg, a staff writer
for The Washington Post, taxpayers in Washington, DC, a democratic stronghold,
continue to pay some of the nation's highest tax bills. The income tax
rate in DC is 9.3 percent; the income rate for all of Virginia is 5.75
percent; for two counties in Maryland adjacent to DC the rate is 7.65
percent for Montgomery County ; and 7.75 percent for Prince George's County.
Clarence M. Mitchell IV, a Maryland State Senator, wrote an article in
the Jan 7, 2002, edition of The Washington Post entitled, "A Fine
Reward for Our Loyalty." In a redistricting map, the legislature
took a historic 80 percent African American district and converted it
into 53 percent African American. It also placed the 44th District's three
black House of Delegate members in a single district, which guarantees
that only one will be reelected. At the same time, two other single-member
districts are proposed for the 44th District, which will guarantee that
whites will represent those areas in the House of Delegates.
The Author says, "as a lifelong Democrat, I am urging other African
Americans not to accept mistreatment from our own party quietly. We are
not in a parent-child relationship. We must be respected as men and women
within the Democratic Party, or we will do as I am doing. I am meeting
with the Republican Party to determine whether my constituents will be
better served by grateful, possibly self-serving new friends rather than
ungrateful, paternalistic historic friends who treat loyalty with betrayal."
I am happy that some people are waking up and confronting reality.
Stay tuned! Why? Because I tell it like it is and it's your money.
God Bless America.
